11 f here now with snow, and 2-4" forecast for tomorrow, then 35 f on Sunday, with a high of 10 forecast for Tuesday. So spring is definitely on the way. Our high last week of -10 set a new record for Normal, right in my back yard.

There's a woman who my wife knows who emigrated to Australia 4 years ago. She's been over for a month and going back on Tuesday, but says she's dreading it! She says the heat is unbearable and the insects are very big! Not only that but she wont see her family again for another 4 years.

It depends on where you are. The heatwave that Melbourne got last week, which I mentioned in this thread, is so unusual that it was the worst recorded heatwave in over a century. Normally, Melbourne weather is very mild and quite pleasant , and this week is like that, with temperatures reaching the low 20s every day. Perth, on the other hand, where I spent my first 30 years, is stinking hot every Summer, which is one reason I don't miss it. Perth is only slightly more northern in latitude than Melbourne, but its geography just encourages hotter weather, whereas Melbourne's proximity to Port Philip Bay gives it its typical changeable but mild weather.
