I'm aiming for the Dewsbury one in a few weeks when I've built up to it - currently on Week 2 of running and am at 3km, which'll go up to 5k next week or the week after. Parkrun will then follow ...

The rate will probably go up faster now I've got a mini-Attila as my trainer in the guise of my 8 year-old who rides behind saying things like "go faster, you're slowing down", "why are you stopping? Hurry up", etc, etc. :cursing:

The aim, pre-April's triathlon debut, is to run in the Dewsbury 10k in February.

You realize that in a few short years he'll be running with you and not long after that he'll be a dot in the distance. This is how it started for me as well.

He's already got his Christmas present road bike and is asking when he can start racing  . Given his current crash rate of one a month I can see much of 2013 being spent in A&E.

I did my 1st Parkrun on Saturday. My kids have swimming lessons on a Saturday morning, so PRs are normally out, but this weekend we had a trip upto the east coast. Turned out there's a PR at Sewerby, near Bridlington. Even better it was the 1 year anniversary. Photographers, Mayor & Mayoress etc.
For 3m/5k course I was surprised at how much variety there was in it. The first couple of miles out and back along the cliff tops (I reckon this could be fun with a stiff offshore breeze!) on tarmac paths followed by a grassy run round the cricket pitch. The last mile takes you into the grounds themselves. Woodlands and formal gardens, finishing infront of the Hall.
It's not a PB course, the last mile has plenty of twists and turns through the gardens, but its definitely a fun run.
Got my time 23:49 Happy with that as a starting point.

Have done the local parkruns a few times and got my pb from 32:25 to 30:29 but haven't been for about six weeks. In fact haven't run for about a month. Am thinking of heading back this weekend but am just coming out of a cold and feeling bit chesty :-\.Will think about it...the stubborn part of me is determined to get sub 30. Our course is described as 'undulating' or in english 'fecking hilly' lol
