that plastic thing behind the cassette

I'm going to take it off.

I know it's there to protect the spokes if the chain unships but I fortunately I know how to set up a rear mech so it's superfluous.

Does anyone else routinely scrap these?

they dont add much extra kg so unless i am changing gear set i normally leave alone , just in case

I keep it on the commuter to limit the crud getting into the cassette, but its off of my Sunday best.

I find after a while they tend to break loose and make annoying rattling noises, so I get rid of mine the first time I have the cassette off of the wheel.

Not in any way I can think of. Unless you can rip it off somehow, but its some strong plastic.
