The trouble with sizing is we are all slightly different whatever your waist/chest etc.and preferences for race/relaxed fit differ, plus all (I think) do different levels of kit with differing quality of pad and the materials used (summer/roubaix?) etc so are you comparing like with like? e.g.Is a top of range Tenn = to entry DHB? A lot comes down to personal preference.
DHB sizing I've found is usually accurate(and has ok return service), decathlon you can presumably try on. I've not bought Planet x tech kit yet but I do buy from them .
For what you are riding, all will be fine, if you bought one from each, you'd probably have a favourite after a few rides. What that favourite is, only your behind could really tell us

That is pretty much what I have been thinking and yes I have looked at the mid range stuff ie dhb aeron race and trying to compare similar.
My bum certainly doesn't hurt as much now probably due to becoming more accustomed and shedding two stone.
I've managed ok with lidl/aldi stuff just fancied trying a more expensive pad.

at 5'10 , 44 chest and 34 waist
(34 in levis so could be bigger by 2  )
I'm a mix according to the size chart
Probably large would be my best bet ?

You could measure yourself for accuracy. There's a fair bit of give in cycling shorts anyway and I can still get away with wearing my larger ones. M may be a bit snug (but perhaps a bit more aero?) L would also fit but may be a bit looser and possibly a little less *ahem* supportive.

Saw the blue and red ones for £8 down from £18.
Race are down to £35 from £50 on wiggles ebay shop as no large left on wiggle site.
no all black either so settled for black with blue detail.
Thought I would splash out and try some dearer ones

Hopefully they fit and are an improvement on what I have

Thanks again to all for the input .
I was slightly put off the tenn because of the size issues people seem to have.
although I have got tenn overshoes and packable jacket which are good.

Shorts have been at the local post office since Wednesday.
Typical they get delivered on my first day back to work. Oh well, pick them up tomorrow morning and see if they fit ?

Picked them up this morning and the sizing does seem bang on where, I am a
large/xlarge chest and medium/large waist so the large size slightly small in the straps and ok in the waist but overall they fit

Pity the temperature has dropped sharpish as I was going to try them out on my commute tonight

Got the free Haribo sweets too
and £10 off voucher for purchases of £50 +
