My brother has an immaculate 350 LC and also a YPVS. I never got the two stroke bug, preferred big four strokes! Quite fancy a Ducati Supersport, but I think my motorcycling days are behind me. Will probably spend the money on some outrageously priced bicycle instead...
Didn't we all want a Duke back in the 80's, warts n'all.
I think my 2 stroke choice was down to performance rather than engine type.
There were not a lot of 4 stroke 250's that could match the 2 strokes back then.
In the late 70's a work mate of mine had a hybrid Laverda Montjuic/Jota.
An of the shelf Montjuic spiced up with the cams etc from a donor Jota that someone had previously written off for him on one of those 'quick blasts up the road to see how it handles'. It sounded like a dream with it's 180 crank (the 120 more balanced crank was introduced some time later).
My Z650 suffered a similar fate however it was totally salvageable and lead to a period of modifications including:
1. The engine P&M 720 cc go faster mods
2. Suspension (koni rears and uprated front springs)
3. Rear box swing arm
4. Piper 4 into 1
5. 5 Litre Alloy Tank
6. Clip-ons and rear-sets (turned by my good self on a lathe)
7. Sports Seat and rear hump
8. Brembo twin front disc conversion
9. General removal of anything that was not needed like indicators, side panels etc
10. 5 spoke alloy wheels in gold and polished ally.
11. Piranha electronic ignition.
12. 4 x bell mouths for the Mikuni smooth-bores fitted with integral mesh grills to stop dogs and children getting sucked in.
