Just looked at WC Stage 1 results to see if Bill's new time is showing up yet (it's not) but great to see the entire British team for the Nations Cup in the top 11 :highfive:

That was not inferred Sir just spreading our British warmth as we always do.

No, no, no Tommy the team stays as it is. I do think Lars has answered his own question about who he should be supporting though - a no-brainer now he's confirmed he's half British!!

Sorry guys that wasn't meant to sound nearly so tetchy! (That's the second time I've had to say that today...)

Work is crazy. I'm spinnnig quite a few plates at the moment, so it's lots of late nights and limited bike time unfortunately. And I honestly wouldn't of had a problem if there was someone quicker than me to take my place. That being said I'd prefer it if it wasn't an Arsenal supporter!

I know that feeling well. 14 hour day and too many plates to spin has led me to resign from my contract. With a disabled wife to look after, and the bike staring at me wondering what it's done to be ignored, something had to give. The job was the sacrifice - i need to lose weight anyway, so the less money I have the less chocolate and cake I can buy

As a contractor now for 10 years I'm used to changing roles every 6 to 12 months and as I've been in this one now for coming up to 21 months I've had a good run. I'm hoping to take a few months off to recharge and spend some quality time with the wife. Hopefully the market is still good when I start looking for a new role later this year. Roll off this contract end of March - should give me enough time to get fitness up for the DD too :okay: I'll need to get fitter as once we near the end, and TB senses the beer calling, I'll need all my strength to keep up

Well done  some times you need to step back and take stock of work life balance, I'm self-employed painter and decorator and when I'm busy I work so many weekends and late nights you have to wonder is it REALLY worth it.

I've missed so much time watching my son grow up and family life I've decided to only work weekends if absolutely necessary and if at all possible not work stupid hours, and I'm starting to get that work life balance right, there's more to life than money in my eyes.

I saw this posted on Facebook, and wondered how many of you had seen it? I thought the real world watts (and bpm) would be an interesting comparison with some of the power monsters on here. I suspect his heart rate would hospitalize a good many of us!

Not sure, but I think this is the course on Bkool, if anyone wants to compare watts?

Probably need a KICKR or NEO to appreciate the full gradient.

I'll be giving it a miss!

That was some effort :notworthy: I wonder if he had a slightly different gearing to keep his cadence just a tad higher, he would be faster in the latter stages. ?

He still had energy to call his number:bravo:
2.40 mins
I bet that would be bkool 600W

I'll have go when I get back from Tenerife,
Bob, Breedon Neo users should too

WOW

That's mightily impressive watts whether real world or Bkool - over 500 the whole time I think. As for his heart rate - :stop:

What this shows is the "real" amount of effort required by a very good athlete to produce 500 watts for a couple of minutes. Bkool varies quite a lot as we know - on occasion I think Bkool's shown me at an average of around 500 watts for a league stage, or for long stretches on the flat which is clearly nonsense. On the other hand, often on hills I am at maximum effort and nowhere near 500 watts - which is probably more realistic (how realistic I don't know!)

Although I'd like Bkool to be as accurate to real life as possible, I don't really mind what the Bkool watts show as long as the watts and speed are consistent for me and everyone else so I can compare my own rides and compete in at least reasonably fair leagues. There's obviously room for improvement with this!

I appreciate though that accurate watts is more important to others who use a power meter in the real world - if I ever got a power meter this might matter to me more as well!

I'm in a very similar situation to yourself Whorty. Main difference being the lack of plates to spin caused me to lose my contract at the end of last year. Unfortunately I'm in Oil & Gas (say no more!) therefore very quiet out there just now. I'm also enjoying spending time at home with my disabled wife (she has MS), however I'm surprised that I've spend no more time on the bike/turbo than I did when I was working, and I always promised myself that when I wasn't working my new job would be to ride the bike for at least 2 hours per day. The reality is I spend most of my spare time looking for work and learning new software, but it does make me realise how great it would be to retire and just do what I want all day, including not getting up until 9 or 10 each day:tired:.

That hill is in matlock baths which I created a course for when I have the time there is also the riber hill near there which is in the top 100 climbs and peaks at 25% so a good practice run for the DD
