The first thing a gang does before the great coup is to synchronize watches.
Perhaps you should all do that before the race. Windows date/time defaults to update time via a timeserver on the internet. Better go there and click "Update" just in case.

I'm not sure if it's nervous anticipation or something more sinister, but I am currently sat at my desk at work with severe abdominal cramps. The last time I had them was 2 years ago at which time I had narrowed it down to coffee, i've not touched coffee since so am baffled by why I have them again, and today of all days I was so looking forward to the race in a sadistic way. Fingers crossed they clear enough for me to be able to compete, else I might join Gail and offer some drafting assitance.....

Oh no - hope you feel better soon Kipster.

You're meant to be the closest person to me on the road. I was about to say something about being lonely out there but I have a funny feeling I won't be on my own for too long.....:surrender:

The big day has finally arrived, and I was discussing the event with my boss at work this morning, hoping he would let me off early this afternoon to have a pre-race nap.
He seemed really interested, and we got into more detail about the Bkool software and it’s capabilities.
He said he might sign up for Premium membership - great I thought something in common to talk about.:hyper:

He then said it would be worth the £8 fee to see me get my ar*e kicked, as he'd picked up by the company’s ethics policy if he did it himself.
Needless to say, I won’t be leaving early – Ah well less than 6 months to go to my retirement.

Apart from those on the start line during the warm up (i.e. GailB and anyone else who decides to sit there until their start time)

I'd test it out first, but pedaling before you start the handicap certainly worked last winter, you could basically start flat out, as you can see in this video from last March at around 20 seconds in, I join the race pedaling furiously...

And again on the rerun at 1:06

Those were the days! :becool:

They certainly were... a trainer that worked.

I love how you refused to let Geoff drop you in that video Monte! Until you finally cracked on the bigger hill!

Also, so few of you in the race back then - should be a fair bit busier tonight I think!

Yes, sadly Monte has had to resort to blaming equipment now, he used to be such a battler!

Look, I know this sounds like a frigging stupid quest but i just want to be sure

Its ok to be pedaling before you click "no" and the session starts? In fact as fast as you can go?:hyper:?

I know I should know coz I took part before and came 3rd!! Not likely today, oh no. But should be fun.
though i might go slowish tonight to weigh up the competition-especially Add's who seems to be improving in leaps and bounds-before a significant effort in saturdays re rerun.

Add and Geoff confirmed earlier in the thread that yes, you should be able to pedal furiously before/during clicking "no" (as long as you're not the first rider(s) off)

It worked that way before, and Adam says it worked yesterday when he tested it, so it seems you should be OK.

I wouldn't think it worth pedaling "as fast as you can" since you may just knacker yourself out before you've even started, I think it best to maintain a steady pace and just try and avoid the first few seconds being stationery and the delay as you get up to speed.

Starting promptly is probably just as important, I seem to remember that I always ended up being late, usually because I clicked the wrong thing, and losing tens of seconds...

Very good tactic to go slow tonight and check out the competition Bobinski - also benefits you with the revised handicaps for the Saturday re-run. Yes, very clever indeed - I think EVERYONE else should do the same as Bobinski

I'm going for it tonight, as I'm looking for my '15 minutes of fame' - that's about as long as I expect to hold onto my podium position, before getting swept up.:cycle:
