We all have similar stories I expect.

I have at least 2, one was me and one was a fella behind me.

My one was fortunately on an incline after haring down the inner dual carriage way in Yeovil at over 30mph.
The stay from one of my sports style mud guards, a bit like crud racers but with steel stays, came adrift and went through the front spokes and ripped just short of half of the 24 front spokes in half before I came to a standstill lying down sideways in the gutter.

The other one was riding home from work at pace through our central park, Nine Springs, on the footpath/cycle way (where I also walked my dogs).
As approached the small hump back bridge over a culvert I thought I could see a pedestrian on the other side who may or may not have a dog.
I slowed as I approached the bridge and low and behold it was a fellow dog walker with his Jack Russel.
I was just dropping off the wooden planked bridge, which was wet with rain, when I heard a crash behind.
A guy chasing me obviously though I was being too cautious going over the bridge so he thought he would overtake me and then saw why I was slowing and applied his brakes hard on the wet wooden bridge with the obvious consequence.
I did think "what an idiot" or similar and then, as we gathered ourselves and rode away, he told me that it was the second time that had happened to him on that very bridge i.e. saw a dog at the last minute and had to brake hard and came off.
You can take a horse to water!
DTN (dude thats nothing)

On a bike path outside of Toronto Canada a guy was spray painting something on the path. I asked and he said it was a warning about slippery railroad crossing. A few seconds later I slid on the wood approch and bent my front wheel between the wood and the rail. It was all in slow motion and the guy was nice enough to give me ride to a bike shop for a new wheel.

I think I have told the story of me at 11 on my hand me down Raleigh RSW16.
I riding along having just fitted an odometer to the front wheel spindle. I was so busy watching it click over to the first mile I ran into the back of a parked car.

Hi Guys my sincere thanks for all your messages and good wishes, I thoroughly enjoyed reading them as I enjoy reading the daily postings, too many to reply individually although I can say to AAAC it's good you don't know about my wine collection or you would be asking for more than a tyre ;) :hello:

Where do you live Steve.
I've just finished my collection again.
I have to buy a new one every week.
However, what with you laid up and all that, you won't be needing yours for a while and it might go off so I could pop round and do you a favour.

My only real crash (lots of slammed breaks and skids into cars as they pulled across me in London!) was slow motion. Coming across Waterloo Bridge towards Strand/Aldwich. Lights on red so me and 20+ other cyclists sitting there waiting for green. Normal next is a mad dash to get across the junction and up the cycle lane at the side of the Wellington pub, and up towards Covent Garden. I'm not at the front of the group so no point me rushing too much as I'm never gonna make that path first. Lights green, everyone shoots off and we're all wheel to wheel; get to the cycle lane and numpty at the front has a nervous momemnt and hits his breaks. Domino effect follows as we all pile into the back of each other. I went over my handle bars but had a very nice soft landing on 2 other cyclists

Whorty I must of cycled over that crossing 1000+ times. I grew up in Peckham and that was my main route into central London. But luckily I always headed up Aldwich and avoided that cycle path. Watching people disappear through the pedestrians and up it always looked mental!

That's awfully kind of you old chap, I live in Forest Hill and here's a picture of the cellar (probably small compared to yours) and if you can find it and get through security, help yourself ^_^

"A friend" was pedalling along and rather taken with a girl walking the other way. Ran into the back of a queued police car ended up spread eagled over the lights on the top.

When I lived in Brum I'd cycle in each morning. 20 years ago not many cycling commuters, so got to recognise the same riders. One morning a usual chap, faster than me, came flying past me and gave me a wave and a "morning". Now, he often went past me but not at the pace he did that day ... reason was i was breaking due to the stationery traffic in front of us, which he hadn't spotted - he went straight into the back of this car and flew onto his boot! :banghead: As I filtered past, (and checked only his ego was damaged) I gave a little wave and gave my own "morning" back

I've been over the top of a car and I've been knocked off by a double decker bus but the worst of them all went like this...

A regularly travelled route of mine included a shortcut through a private estate and whilst cycling this particular day, I knew I was on a good time... I was flying along the main road getting closer to the estate entrance and luck would have it that the traffic lights at the estate junction were green... moving into the middle of the road, preparing to turn right, there was no oncoming traffic. Head down I turned the usual corner at the junction, down a slight slope and into the estate... flying.... at the very last second my eyes focussed on what appeared to be a piece of wood hovering at handlebar height across the road. At the same time, my bars hit the wood, I was catapulted out of the seat, my thighs hit the bars and I did aproximately thee and a half summersaults whilst still strapped in to the bike, to land unceremoniously on the back of my head - no helmets in those days.

They had erected a road barrier at some point in prior days....

I awoke in hospital: my head smashed, my legs smashed and my beautiful Motobecane smashed.

Six weeks later I was walking again.. :B)

Would it be wrong of me to say that it may explain a few things....?
