Who'd want to travel to Manchester, let alone faster?Now I understand.
I remember similar confusion when the route of HS2 was announced with lots of people on the BBC scoffing about "who wants to go to Manchester and Sheffield quickly, ha ha..."
This of course misses the point: the main advantage of HS2is that you can leave London quicker. Where you are going after that is a secondary consideration.
