I was a bit wary as I was carrying a piece of metal that looked remarkably like a small pistol. I didn't feel too comfortable...

Joking apart, there have been a couple on incidents where the armed response units have been trigger happy and pulled the trigger first and it has been found the person didn't have a gun/weapon. Difficult call for those guys, but it is a bit scary if you happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
