I'm literally just off 12m, worked Nebraska, Tennessee and Missouri on JT65 data....de GM7GAX
I used to experiment with PSK31 and hellschreiber.

Not that keen on Hell but cut my data teeth on PSK31, you should give JT65 JT9 a go...like watching paint dry but on my poor antenna (indoor/outdoor dipole-1/2 in loft then other leg down the back of down pipe) and low power, it gets me out....I used to experiment with PSK31 and hellschreiber.

On YouTube I seeI remember having a PSK31 qso with North America using the ft817 and 2.5w and a 1/8 wave whip via a tuner, really not ideal but it worked.
Again in english!I got my issue solved: used dropbox then d/l to my mac.
Then used iSonics to convert the video to an mp3 file. Now I have the audio I need for my project (the song what I wrote!)
On YouTube I see
12 and 10 had been excellent for about a month now, 12 is still showing the odd weak trace....
I use my 817 for hill work although not much SOTA stuff done this year but next year, I'll get back in to it....
VHF only as I cannot see why you get so much height and work HF esp at height of hills up here...
I think a return to Snowdonia with Mrs Mhor next year may be on the cards....
I'm sure from Snowdon I'd catch you (even in yon hellhole)
I can work into North Wales from locations to the N of me on both 4m and 2m in 'normal' conditions, I have 'worked' down your way during a couple of 'lifts'...I was on the Mendips with a 9ele on 144MHz a long time ago with a West Country accent
I will give it a go on 2m when more favourable WX returns
