You have to remember that weather is due to more than the latitude - whilst that has an effect the geography, industry, population etc., etc., will all have an impact.

So why are bananas grown on parts of the North West coast of Scotland then?

Canada is the second largest country on the planet. The winds from the great lakes blowing east will have a big effect on cooling
