I echo WD...tell him you have last minute relatives coming to visit and though you'd love to spend time with him, you can't and hope he understands. Perhaps say that you could meet to walk the dogs but put a time limit on it so he understands it can't/won't be all day.
That is our current thinking.
We don't want to upset our friend, we've been friends with him for 30+ years and love him to bits. Its just that he suggested - after we had said that our plan was to walk at the beach on Christmas day - arriving at his at 8am  and walking for 3 or 4 hours (I have a greyhound who would not be chuffed at such a long walk as he is seriously lazy, I also have 16 year old terrier) then having casserole, then carols, then evening church and had planned the whole day out for us.
We have discussed the getting up before the crack of dawn and said that we are off to church at 10.30 for an hour and would be walking for 90 minutes at most. We said that we could drop him off at his brother's house in time for Xmas dinner, that they never start until 4pm due to work etc.
Hubby has said that he will pop around, after dialysis, tonight and have a chat with him and see if he can calm our pal's plan down a bit.

We only had the 'walking on the beach' conversation, in passing, at lunchtime. Hubby currently chatting on FB chat dodad with friend.
Is it to early for wine?!

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Sounds like a plan.

Still pretty sore but have done quite a bit today, changing beds etc.
Heading for a hot bath soon I think!
You?

Went to the shops. Looked after one grandson. Fetched and carried for him, making lots of tea. Same old same old. It was bloomin awful weather here today to couldn't do much.

We have a couple of pals with AS and they are as different as can be. Hubby has sorted situation out a bit now via FB chat. Still walking, not lunching though, which is fine.
I don't want to really spend Christmas day doing things that I don't want to do. December is my silly season and Xmas day is my first day of relaxation. When it really boils down to it, its the first day where I don't have to do the 'competent and upbeat business owner' act. I can just be and not have to worry about pleasing anyone but ourselves. I guess another few hours won't hurt but December is quite stressful and though I only suffer with depression, which comes and goes, sometimes I just don't want to be nice for nice's sake.
I am sure it will all sort out beautifully, hubby can be quite the diplomat when he has to be.

Yeah, same here! Gale force winds and driving rain at times. Seems to have calmed down now but weather warning was in place until 9pm.
Hubby back on 12 hour day shift tomorrow, then nights Mon-Sun inclusive. Means he's off Christmas week, yay!

Busy next week; I have a Christmas gathering for the place I volunteer with in the afternoon and son has his Christmas dance on Monday evening.
I have a hospital appointment on Tuesday plus it's the school Christmas concert in the evening.
Shopping to finish in town on Wednesday morning.
Thursday is free (so far!) and Friday I have physio and son finishes at lunchtime for the break.
Then the merriment commences!

Morning WD. It wasn't grey when it left Australia. Must be something to do with it spending several months in a shipping container.

Ha Ha. One day at work they had an Australia day. One of the things on the menu was sandwiches with Kangaroo meat in them. It looked gross and needless to say no one had any.
