I heard someone point out on the radio a while ago, that we British talk in Fahrenheit when we want to emphasise how hot it is (Don't laugh, that does happen here sometimes!), but Celsius when we want to highlight the cold, and I think it's true for the older generation - I think entirely in Celsius and I'm in my 40's. And the media do it to some extent.

So we'll talk about "80 in the shade!" but "minus 5!" as equally noteworthy.

It's those little inconsistencies I love about this country.
