Respect needed, please.

I've just done an online IQ test....my score is 142

I knew I was pretty modest but I didn't realise I was so clever
I was tested, by Mensa, when I was at school. I scored 156 which greatly surprised some people.

I have been starting my holiday wind down, after fixing another couple of plumbing leaks, today. I decided to have a look at this SCARM software for designing a model rail layout.
I came up with this, which in OO scale would be 5.2m x 0.7m. It may get a bit bigger as I haven't scaled the buildings properly yet but they are all, but one, 15' tall markers.

Do Pringles count as a starter?

Of course. They can be a main course, too, and if you serve them with cheese, dessert....

Respect - 156

The railway layout looks good but shouldn't it go round and round?

Nah, it's all part of the grand plan. He'll just keeping adding bits to the end until it runs round the whole house in a giant helix....

Rocky, link to the IQ test please, as a teenager I did the mensa entry test and passed, but I can't remember the score.

I have made the building taller, 30', and added trees and lamp posts. The original attempt was over 7m long, 5.2m is still a bit long, unless I go into the loft, so I might see if I can bring it down to 4.9m max.

Round and round is boring, reminds me of setting up the Flying Scotsman on an oval on the dining table. It would chase its tail for about 5 circuits before the track slipped off the edge of the table.^_^

An end to end layout takes up less space too, as it can run along a wall or on a shelf. The 5m or so of track would be just under half quarter* mile of industrial track. A shunting loco at 5mph would take about 6mins to get end to end.

*Opps, thinking in N scale!

It's here....three things (i) it requires an email at the end - I've got a hotmail one which I use for dodgy sites which might spam (ii) it'll ask you for payment at the end for a certificate - just ignore that, you'll get your result by email (iii) ignore the link for a test at the bottom of the page - it's the one at the top you need
Isn't this a whole new thread of its own? Or is my IQ below average?

- so I'm not sure having a high IQ really means much other than being able to do IQ tests.
This is very true.
It hasn't done me much good professionally, nor personally. However, I think it does make my life more fun as I can see ways to entertain myself with engineering type things and finding solutions to problems that I design for myself.
Maybe it is that effect on my personality that attracts Arch.:thumbsup:

You don't think life would be simpler if you stopped designing problems for yourself? ;)

I think you're right. I know that watching you lying in the footwell of your car, mending a broken clutch pedal with jubilee clips was a defining moment.... *

There are lots of other things too, of course.

*To be commemorated in the design of our wedding rings....

....I only did it because my son, who should be revising for finals, scored 139 and was bragging about it. I have to say that most days I feel pretty stupid - so I'm not sure having a high IQ really means much other than being able to do IQ tests.

I was pretty bright when I were a lad. Just before 11-plus, my class sat an earlier year's paper as a rehearsal for the real thing and my teacher accused me of cheating when I scored 100%!

I did one of those IQ tests when I was a teenager and scored low 150s, but whatever brains I had then have addled over the years and never did me much good anyway. I didn't have the right personality to back them up - I always lacked confidence, and was strongly risk-averse. I also have some sort of attention problem so my mind is always leaping about from one thing to another and never getting much done.

But ... I am slightly curious to find out what score I could get now; I think it would be way down. I might give that test a go ...
