Targets, targets

I'm a school teacher and at the beginning of the school year (September) I set myself the target of riding 1000 miles by Christmas and losing a stone and a half (at the time I'd always convinced myself that I was 12.5 stone but was shocked that I was actually 14!!!).
Today is half term holiday and I've pushed myself to reach 985 miles already (just need a quick spin tomorrow and should get there!) and I've lost 1 stone 1 pound. Thing is that I've really found that I thought I needed the motivation to reach the target (miles) to keep me going, or push myself further, but now I'm nearly there I feel a bit low...it was supposed to be a massive moment...
Was contemplating setting a new target but what if that's an anticlimax too???
Any thoughts???

set yourself another target of entering some races next season - that should motivate you over the winter - and lining up for your first race will definitely not be an anticlimax...

I need targets too. I set myself a few this year and it helped me to push myself to hit them. Went through a bit of a dodgy patch recently but back on the straight and narrow again now and already thinking about targets for next year. Some people just work better this way - do whatever helps to motivate you.

Thanks guys...just feels a bit weird that over the last couple of months I've tracked every mile, how I feel, weather, times (and so many other things) but now I've reached one...I always thought there would be that moment of jubilation...
B'N'Y - have always thought about entering a sportive etc but am too nervous about the fact that I'd make a right arse of myself and not be able to finish (or be last..which I often was at school cross-country!)

I also need to set targets. I suffer from Psoriatic arthritis which meant at times I couldn't even dress myself. New medication started at the end of last year meant a great improvement in my condition so decided to set myself some targets and entered this years Dartmoor Classic, trained hard, lost a stone and a half and completed the ride, Aiming now to ride from John O'Groats to Lands End next May with three Club Mates

There's nothing preventing you from entering a sportive now - it would be good for the mileage. Nobody is first or last on a sportive, as the only objective is to complete the distance. I was really talking about racing though...

TBH, if you can ride a bike, you won't be "last" on a sportive, about 5% of the field can't even ride their bikes!

Never a truer word said. Nothing focuses you more than knowing that every kilo lost is like chucking two full bidons away, and that every kilo gained has to be pedalled up the next hill.

I hit fighting weight this morning. 176cm and 69kg. I was 80kg in June.

You know what??? Completed the 1000 today...weather was awful...amazingly windy and chucked it down mid ride...also the water bottle was left at home accidentally
However...felt good. Even though it was only about 18 miles I really really enjoyed it! New route, found some challenging hills, fought the wind and got back home with the biggest smile on face for a long time!
What a difference a day makes!

Mum has really bad arthritis and can barely hold things at times so know how bad it can get. Think it's amazing that you can get out and challenge yourself...well done mate
