I have 35mm alloy width bars, and they do taper. You shouldn't have any problems taping up to the taper point, my bars are also 46cm c-c so very wide.

Why did you get 35mm (clamping) bars? Doesn't this limit the stems you can use? Is their performance better (than 31.8mm bars) and if so in what way?

They came with the bike, which is a Felt VR, so halfway between a road and cyclo-cross or travel bike. The stem could easily be swapped for a 31.8mm one should I feel the need, but I'd obviously need to change the bars too.

Seems stiff to me, don't have any noticeable flex even when pulling up on the bars fairly hard, so quite different from my 80s steel bikes with 25.4mm bars. I wouldn't want to say it performs better though, just different.

Not to sure?
Well the carbon 35mm bars arrived this morning, and very nice they are to, and incredible light!

Oddly enough, but there is a dotted line around the circumference on either side of the bars literally as soon as the straight section of the bars start that states "tape limit"?

Which is suggesting or maybe even recommending that none of the straight section of the bars should have any tape on it at all, how odd?
