Yeah, I forgot Thorn, who (I grudgingly accept) make passable tandems, but they are heavy, fugly, and you tend to get what RT thinks you should have rather than what might be suited to your needs.
Generally I don't but their 'agricultural' approach seems to look better in tandem form than for a solo. But they now do a solo 700c rohloff light tourer called the Mercury and it has disc brakes!!!!, it's not a bad looking bike but not as nice as other makes in that price range.
Went for a 20 mile ride on a tandem with my brother-in-law last week. We had a good day out but I never, ever want to ride a tandem again. Horrible handling in the wet combined with needing to balance for two or rely on someone else to make all the decisions means i'll stick to bikes for one from now on.
