I have brief exhortations that I sort of yell or mumble (depending on level of exhaution) to myself to get me up hills. These can be alarming for pedestrians or folk who are gardening...

I have also been known to mimic cows or sheep when passing a field of same - and scoring myself on how many heads turn my way.

My children find this behaviour certifiable, but it makes me chuckle.

Best results are achieved when passing a field of ewes and new lambs in the Spring.

The worst thing is to be singing away and then get passed by some lycra fiend who's probably been on my wheel for a mile and hiding from my rearward glances the way those sneaky types do....

I'll stop now.

i sing a lot too, quite embarrassing when you're singing away and some chap in lycra zooms past you!
i've now taken to singing louder when that happens

I'm another one who sings. Thanks for the tip, Melonfish

I make comments on motorists - usually they've done nothing other than roar past with the fat exahust pipe - the boy racer type, so i give them a 'yeah wide boy, off you go', or other such thing.
I moo at cows and baa at sheep.......
And sometimes sing. Loudly. Usually when its raining or i need to encourage myself.

I obviously need to put more effort in so I'm too out of breath to talk or sing......

I moo at cows and baa at sheep.......

Just as long as you don't moo at the sheep and baa at the cows, that would just be silly...

I find I start commenting on my riding; 'crappy trackstand' when I put my foot down after 2 seconds (I'm not good at it but getting a bit better), 'mind the draincover', stuff like that lol

Often mutter out loud, especially when driving and usually making reference to the inadequecies of other drivers, with me being so perfect

Its started creeping in to rides on occasions and I also sing when not pushing too hard.

Last time I spoke to a field of cows all I got back was a load of bullocks.

HAhaha! mooing to cows. guilty... in fact any animal, its now getting to the season that i see a lot of pheasants and i will occasionally shout at them to get out of my way.
i don't particularly speak pheasant and i'm pretty sure they're actually quite, quite stupid so probably wouldn't understand me shouting at them to get out the way but i do it anyway...

all in all when cycling i look like i'm an escaped mental patient, i sing at the top of my voice, i talk to myself to give myself encouragement and i make animal noises and curse inanimate hills....

"they've coming to take me away ho-ho, ha-ha-he-he...."

You know you've reached the end when you're riding along singing:

They're coming to take me away Ha Ha
They're coming to take me away ho ho he he ha ha
to the funny farm where life is beautiful all the time, and I'll be happy to see those nice young men in their clean white coats
and they're coming to take me away ha ha

Playing back some of my videos taken with a helmet cam I am still amazed at how much I chatter away to myself, clearly heard on the video soundtrack. I comment on cars, the road, the weather, and anything that takes my interest. Funny enough I have no idea I am doing it or recollection of it. I wonder if I do it when walking. I will have to clip a camera on and find out!

Same here.

I must say it's refreshing to see I'm not alone. I did get into trouble many moons ago... I'd fell in love and moved in with some bird, she went upstairs and came back a few minutes later asking who i'd been on the phone to. "no one" was my honest reply. She didn't believe me as she'd heard me 'on the phone'. It can affect trust issues.

Oh no, rumbled!

I saw the title to this thread and thought '...and feeling old...sometimes I'd like to quit, nothing ever seems to fit...hanging around...' If I don't have my phone with me, I have to sing when cycling. Or I make lists aloud of things I have to do.

I croaky-creak at crows when I pass them in a field, especially when they take off and startle me.
Once I was coasting quietly down a hill at dawn and disturbed a barn owl who flapped along maybe only a couple of metres away from me. I amused myself making mouse noises while the owl stared at me, making eye contact all the way.

I talk myself through almost every task I perform (with one or two notable exceptions  ) and yep, I often wonder if others consider me odd.

In a peculiar way, it helps me concentrate particularly if trying to keep track of a messy process at work. I know it can be annoying to others, as there are at least two others who do the same thing, and I find myself asking them to wrap up, until I remember that I'm just as guilty!

On the bike, I mumble away and allow the rest of the world to consider me eccentric if they so wish, it's not deliberate I just think out loud a bit too much sometimes!

I only do it on a level road or going downhill. Going uphill, I am too busy trying to get enough oxygene in my lungs to keep going!
