taking advantage of a tail wind

well I rode into a 30 knot wind this morning and apparently its 26 for my way home, how is best to take advantage of this and set a record time home?

You can't.

Everyone knows the wind changes direction through the day so you should be able to look forward to a 26 knot headwind on the way home

There is no such thing as a tail wind

Edit: Actually there is such a thing as a tail wind, but it is only ever experienced by cyclists heading in the opposite direction to you.

I got an awesome tailwind yesterday on the A46 going north from the M4 motorway, I just rested my hands on the downbars and pedalled relatively easily and before I know it I am doing 25-30mph on the flat with virtually no effort on the pedals. Probably the most rewarding 5 miles i've ever cycled.

ok it was mostly side wind on the way home on the upside the big drag that I climb on the way home is pretty sheltered which is nice to know

Side wind - drop the shoulder that side and try to use your back as a sail (sorta works for me )

anything thats not blowing either down or up the lane isn't too much of an issue round here as we have devon banks (about 2-4 foot of earth with another 4+ foot of hedge on top) which block almost all the wind, gates were great fun though

i dont have a tail, so can only imagine the advantage this would have in the wind
