I'm looking for a suitable bulb. I've just found one with a smooth side marked 2.7 volts and .42 amps. Is that any good? Though I'm not sure how it stays in when the bulb socket on the SKS mudguard is also smooth.

Thanks in anticipation

The bulb for a rear mudguard light is 6V 0.1A, screw-in. Spa sell them if you can't find one locally. There ought to be a wire spring that grips the sides of the bulb through slots in the side of the plastic socket.
I reckon you'd be better off taking the light off and replacing it with an LED version. Bulbs are getting hard to find.

Thanks Andrew. LBS had one no problem. Screw thread fits fine. Just got to look after rear light - that it does not get hit.
