How do you dry Shorts at Work ? We have no facilities so usually they will sit in my locker and just tend to fester in the day !
I could wash them in the showere with me but wouldn't be able to dry them.

If you can, have them on a hanger and out in the air as opposed to festering in a locker. One pair per day should be okay. Ideally, wear one pair on the ride to work & a fresh pair for the ride home - and that should help your problem clear up. Also, make sure you wash the delicate regions night and morning, drying *thoroughly*. That should help clear up sore bits.

vaseline anyone ? or does that make things worse ? never had any major probs with me undercarriage yet. was mighty sore the last 10 miles of the great north bike ride but i'm not getting sores or rashes. still i wonder should i apply some sort of cream to make these long rides more comfortable ?

I must be lucky.

I wear budget shorts, £4-6 per pair from an outsize gents outfitters plus cotton underpants and do not suffer from saddlesoreness of any description.

No chafing even when soaked in the rain.

I'd slavishly slathered my nether regions with a range of unguents - vaseline, anti fungal preparations, zinc and caster oil, sudecreme and it all came to a halt when I forgot to pack some for a tour and discovered that they'd made no contribution to my sore free status.

Lucky indeed vernon! I get really quite nasty rashes, especially in summer. The unsightliness I can handle but the itching drives me mad.

Same here. I credit my natural athleticism, although it's probably my Brooks saddle; and maybe some people have more rancid/corrosive/infective sweat than others.

Clean dry kit is the biggest preventative, as everyone says. I have never found that the same shorts twice in a day matters, but using them several days in a row will, even if you dry them out in between.

You're casting aspersions on an athlete who has gone under the 4 hour mark for a hundred mile road ride.

If he says it's 'natural athleticism' I would let it stand.
He's also a lawyer.
What if he has a penchant for litigation?

Zinc and caster oil - good - thick though. Aqueous creme - that's good and mix with sudocrem. I find sudocrem drys quickly - it's not very moisture intensive, so on a long ride I'll put some of that on, then aqueous creme.

Sudocrem wins hands... errrmmm....bums-down.

Tried Vaseline on a chafed area once earlier this summer when I'd forgotten my Sudocrem. Useless. Rubbed off in seconds.

Sudocrem is so much thicker and lasts for ages, so I always carry a wee pot around for the odd occassion when something has been chafing.

Yesss! I didn't even need to look at the hook to know who would be on it, Tim.

We both know the time for that 100 was substantially more than four hours, although haven't some people forgotten that some people still finished ahead of some other people?
