When I used to race motorcycles I was deliberately non superstitious. A lot of friends had superstitions / lucky vests / lucky charms / set routines before a race etc, but I didn't want to be caught up in that.

Although thinking about it maybe being deliberately non superstitious was a superstition in itself:huh:

Just remembered as I've just done it. I have to put roll on deodorant under my left arm first, then when I've done the right armpit I have to do one more roll under the left one.

I always tie my left shoelace first, then my right one. It's also the left one first when I untie them.

When I park my car on a hill, or even a slight slope I never walk in front of it, if it's facing downwards, or behind it if it's facing upwards, just in case I haven't put the hand break on or left it in gear. Is this a superstition or just common road safety sense? 🤔

I was once told by a youngster that it's bad luck to open a packet of crisps upside down.

I was also told by my dad that it's bad luck to put shoes on a table. I pointed out to my dad that the shoes weren't on the table, but on the chair beside the table. "Any elevated surface!" was my dad's reply. "Does that include the shelves in the shoe shop?" I smugly asked. I may have got a clip round the ear, which i suppose proved him right.

I'm not superstitious.

Good practice indeed but in his case at least there is more to it.
Cannot remember the detail but you could be handing the knife to an enemy who would take the opportunity to stab you. His explanation of point and edge facing away also had a sinister explanation.

While practicing with Japanese blades, they are passed on hilt first, with the back of the blade along your forearm, for just such reasons.

Is there not something about stirring things clockwise? If you stir anti-clockwise you stir up the devil or something.

Is it the other way round in the Southern Hemisphere

Carbon fibre... LMAO!!!
We had a rule in my old mountain bike club that the word "rain" was banned during any ride as saying it would inevitably lead to it pi**ing down.
I don't think any of us actually believed that crap but it was fun to groan and whine for the duration of the ride at the poor chap who said it. 🤭

I once watched a film called Drugstore Cowboy, which was a good film. The main character was very superstitious. His number 1 superstition was a hat on a bed. He thought that was a hex portending potential loss of life. I was careful not to put any hats, caps or beanies on the bed for many years after that. However, I did it without thinking once or twice and it did not seem to make any difference, so I am not worried about it now.
