"At that time, the street level was much lower, running at the height of the basements of today's buildings." Let's open this sub-level of London again and put the cars and trucks down there, leaving the upper layer for cyclists. Which we could then call cycling superhighways. Save a lot of blue paint. And I didn't even need a drink at LMNH to come up with that idea. Speaking of which, who knew they had locks to loan?
I did.
The sub-terranean Compton Street is a gem. A real find that, as a Londonphile, I am ashamed to say I knew nothing of.
Camden has something similar. But different, below its streets.
Thanks @rb58 for a really interesting ride. This was a perfect chance to get some more practice on riding my fixed and I only had a couple of little incidents. (sorry for the profanities!). Highlights for me were: the hidden road, my first visit to LMNH, and a very nice beer from @topcat1
As usual I took a few pictures.
Nice one Ross a very unique ride much of which i've passed for years and have known but ignored was good to catch up with John, Chris and of course Grace (you guys should get out more) and the rest of the gang. Nice to meet Susan and the lady in the orange vest? (clean that chain and the way you wear that helmet will strangle you should anything bad happen tut tut ) and good to see Gail as well.
pics later
