Morning all, a family friend has asked if I will escort him from Hayes (Kent) to Brighton on his bike. He cycle commutes and is reasonably fit. I've no real idea what speed he'll be going at, and he may bring friends. We'll be following Ross' road route through the lanes to Turners Hill and Ditchling.

Start time: 10am, Sunday 29th Jan.
Location: Hayes Station, near Bromley, Kent.
Destination: Madeira Cafe, Brighton (50 miles).
Pace: No idea. Never ridden with the guy. I'm guessing we'll arrive in Brighton around 3pm.

There will be a (slightly faster) ride back afterwards to bring it up to an even hundred for those that fancy it.

Let me know if you're interested.

Google map of start here.

Possibly, although I had promised myself a Sunday London Ride that week. The Beacon beckons though. If I come, I will not be riding back over Devil's Dyke though. I hate that route. Sorry.

Would having a "tentative probably" assist the other ladies to commit? (I'm slower than you both!!)

I was thinking of doing my own run of last Sunday's Olympic Road Race route but I've heard there's a big social group of cyclists doing it that day and would rather not get caught up in that... that said, a 50-miler with hills is exactly what I need.

Sorry, just realised I got the date muddled - thought you were doing this, this coming Sunday but that's the 22nd of course not the 29th... I'm booked to do an audax on the 29th so I'm out. Sounds like a nice sociable ride, wish I could do it.

Yep. You'd follow Hayes Lane until you pass some shops (old hayes). At the mini roundabout with the car dealership on, you swing a right down Pickhurst Lane and take a hard left at the bottom into Hayes High Street. Road curves up and to the right. Station is near the top on the right. 2 miles from the Dripping Tap.
