I aim to build up my gas credit between end of April / early September
Being on the ground floor (without carpets) does not help.
Great for bike comings and goings though ^_^

A blood test revealed low Vitamin D levels, so my GP prescribed tablets and 20 mins sunshine on unprotected forearms per day where possible.
Getting a bit more serious for a moment and cross-riffing our tag-team slap down of chiropractic, one of the 'crazy ideas' in this book is that the blanket advice to avoid sun exposure causes more harm than good. The (simplified) argument goes that a much greater fraction of the population as a whole are at risk from heart disease than skin cancer. Greater sun exposure would slightly reduce the risk of heart disease across this larger number, while also increasing the incidence of skin cancer. However, the net effect would be an overall reduction in deaths.
The chapter is really a demonstration of how careful you need to be when choosing your sample populations.

I'm best avoided at parties.:blush::tired:

Because I burn easily and also have psoriasis it's a bit of a gamble as to how much sunshine but one bit of information I've picked up from somewhere is that you don't generate Vitamin D in sufficient quantities unless you shadow is shorter than you.
how high (angle) in the sky does the sun have to be before the body can assimilate useful levels of vit D ?

I was trying to find this out a while ago and most articles suggest the sun needing to be greater than 50° - that doesn't happen where I live outwith midday in June.
I go by UV index found in some hourly weather forecasts.

I took my pallid anglo-celtic skin into the midday sun today, after 6 months in long sleeves, and have been rewarded by a patch of sunburn on my upper arm. Especially embarrassing as an Australian, who has learnt (the hard way) to be cautious.

Be careful out there, people!

I've stopped with sun block because their ingredients are so unhealthy.

Now use the arm sleeves that they make for this purpose. They work well. Too expensive though IMO.
