Here's the background,

I commute 20 miles a day 3 maybe 4 times a week. With all the weather we have been having my shoes and socks often end up drenched.

So i brought a cheap pair of Pro Tarmac H20 overshoes just too see how they worked and how i got on with them. Only cost £10 from eBay so not too much lost if it doesnt work out.

Now, here's the thing. I dont use clipless peddles.(i know shock horror some may scream) and the peddles on my boardman CX have some spiky grip on them which I can see damaging the overshoe really easily.

So does anyone have any suggestions on what i can fettle onto the shoe possible to minimise the damage and make them last a bit longer? (dont suggest clipless, im not there yet!)

Used them for the first time today and the are really good. Feet stayed dry and warm throughout the commute into work

Here's a pic of the bottom

Flat pedals with half-clips?

You could always try a pair of old fashioned rubber block pedals, not fashionable, not sporty, not good looking and not the most efficient but cheap enough on E bay and ok for a miserable wet commute.

Yeh I already have strapless toeclips on the pedals I have.
Didnt want to go down the route of spending much to be honest... but I can see it may be the only solution

What about taping up the spikes on the pedals then?

Or could you get an old inner tube over them (remove the half-clips, slip the tube on, then re-attach clips)?

Old inner tubes have 1,001 uses: I use mine to pad my handlebars before taping, to protect spare inner-tubes before they go in my pocket/bag and as big elastic bands for all sorts of stuff.
