John, Are you sure that is a picture of me, with the speed at which I set off, I am sure any picture would have just been a blur^_^

Gordon, I didn't notice a fourth rider in our group, but there must have been, otherwise where would this 'thoroughly nice bloke' have come from?

I felt surprisingly good yesterday, well up to the point the I found that my train home from London was cancelled and that I had to wait another hour for the next one. Now I remember why I do try to avoid going...

Very much looking forward to my next long ride, which all going to plan will be the Dunwich Dynamo. Must make some adjustments to my saddle position before then, or just pedal a bit faster. Strangely my backside felt much better on the very last leg when I was going for it. Guessing that is just down to less weight on it and more through the legs.

You were a rapidly diminishing speck as you broke for home! Very impressive.

Did some ride time calculations and averages based on the video footage for start and stops. These are all averaged from the start position:

To first feed point at 22 miles: 16.9mph
To second feed point at 51 miles: 17.0mph
To third feed point at 77 miles (just me as I blew up two miles from it, with Matt and Gordon arriving a few minutes earlier than me): 16.3mph
To finish: 15.5mph Oh dear - I averaged 13.4mph on the last stretch. At least there were others in a worse state because I did pass a few even at that speed.

My total ride time was 6hrs 26minutes, more than 20 minutes slower than last year. A couple more long rides beforehand and I wouldn't have conked out. Gordon might well have broken six hours, if he hadn't waited for me. Not bad for old guys.

I recorded 103 miles on my strada for the route, which would up some of the above averages a bit if true. Gps plotting intervals do result in shortened travel distance as point to point plots straighten curves but I would have though 101 to 102 was more likely

Good luck for the DD!

John
