Why is it called a dynohub or hub dynamo when it's an alternator? I cheated and used it half wave to each battery 6 volt each so 12 volt total DC.

If you are dismantling a dynohub, do not remove the armature from the magnets as it will destroy the magnets.

I'm sure when I was taught to service SA hubs there was a keeper for the magnets? Mind you this was about 1975 lol

There is, and it is exceedingly rare.

If I strip one of my dynohubs, it will just be to get familiar with how the thing works, and will remain in bits. I think I'm correct in saying the parts are the same as for non-dyno hubs, so will be handy as spares

Apparently a spare armature from a dead dynohub (of which there are many) works as a keeper ring.

We used to use random bolts, as long as you bridge the pole shoes you’ll be fine.

Seem to remember old hub dynamo was same casing as the hub brake, seem to remember using one in our tandem to give better braking?
