I won an old 3-speed Raleigh Stowaway on eBay a couple of months ago. It's been fine for a while, but the 3-speed hub has started sticking. What I mean by that is the indicator rod will not move and it won't shift. This isn't a case of the cable sticking, as it won't shift even if you try to pull it out manually. I'd say it's periodic, but it's happening more often than not now.

Any idea's if it's easily fixable or the hub is borked? (I've checked Sheldon).

The usual fix is to unscrew the indicator rod and squirt some mineral oil down the hole. It's worth a go.

Cheers Chris, I'll give it a go - I've oiled thru the port but not directy down the middle.

Good advice above: lie the bike on its left side so indicator rod I'd uppermost. Dribble oil in and spin the wheel periodically to ensure that the oil is spread. A couple of days would be ideal. Should that fail it will need stripping down.

Well squirted oil down the hole last night, it didn't seem to do much but will leave it a couple of days and spin the wheel a bit as I remember. In fact, after squirting, I tried connecting the indicator rod back up to the hub and gear cable and there wasn't enuff cable to reattach - the rod was now held further in the hub. But like I say will give it a couple of days.

Not sure I'd want to go down the stripping down route as the back wheel has also being pinging spokes, it's seems it's a better bet to get another cheap Stowaway off ebay for spares.
