Can I add a stupid inner tube question to this thread? I can! Thanks.

I've noticed that I have to top my tyres up pretty much twice a week, or at least every time I check them they've lost about 15 - 20psi, is this normal or is it because my bike will have cheap tubes? Halfords do a pack of 5 for £12 (although these were £8 the other day) so would you say that with regard to tubes, they're all the same, or is it better to buy a branded tube such as a continental or michelin etc? Do branded tubes hold air better?

Or is it nothing to do with the tubes and does it depend on the tyres? I have mtb tyres (stock ones on the cheap bike) with a max 65psi.

Cheers.

Its not normal no.

Something is leaking there. I doubt the rubber itself is just leaking due to cheapness. I cant say my branded tubes have better life than cheaper.

What valves are you using?

if presta, check the little valve lock on the top is properly tightened before you replace the dustcap..

TBH My tyres also loose about that much air 10-15psi during the week commuting, I generally have to top them up on a Wednesday (back up to 120psi), this has been true of almost all of my tubes, Continental, Life Life, Halfords own, all the same!
Not sure why? :headshake:

No I don't know why either?! I'm an ex tyre fitter (albeit commercial stuff) so I know that all tyres lose a bit of pressure over time but not that much in less than a week. I just wasn't sure if this was normal on small bike tyres. I've checked for slow punctures and that the tube hasn't been nipped etc but all looks fine. I use schrader valves.

I did think it might be the track pump, as when I inflate the tyre to 120psi and take the pump off I do usually get a little hiss until the head of the pump is completely off the valve (I usually whip it off quick) nothing major but but could be deflating the tyre by the small amount im loosing?
