Morning everyone

Im cycling around the new Forrest at the weekend. Do you guys cycle over cattle-grids on your road bikes or get off and walk over? Not sure if it will damage my tyres riding over them?

Thanks for any help

i slow down but ride straight over them think that would be the best way - dont even think i would like to walk over them in plastic soled shoes , still remember de-skinning my shin
when i was a kid running over one and slipping through

On a road bike I ride directly at the grid (90 degrees with reference to the bars on the grid) at 26km/h or more. If I'm on my folding bike I stop and find a way around the grid.

I ride over them at speed, standing up on the pedals so the bike can absorb the undulations. Road bike and hybrid.

I used to walk over them but now I ride over. The trick is, as you approach, to keep looking at the narrow metal strip that secures the grid together ( there are usually three or four of them spaced out) and ride over that. If you get it right, you hardly feel it . It works.

As above just ride over it at 90 degrees. Bikes are pretty tough, unless there are obvious missing bars then it should be no problem. If the bike is too feeble to withstand it then either wrap it in cotton wool and use it only on a track or bin it and buy a real bike that you can actually use in the real world.

I've never really thought about it, just rode straight over them.

Stand up & cycle straight over at least 2 on every single ride I do.

Edit: I counted 8 on todays little sortie into the forest!!

I ride over them on both hybrid and road bike, I can never decide whether to take them at speed or slow down, so I invariably do both. I always raise my arse out of the saddle though and stop pedalling as I go over them.
