Stupid Question about keeping dry

This skin stuff sounds excellent - it's waterproof and breathable - I'll have to try to get some. Till then, I use light cotton trousers that dry quickly.

Hi,

After getting soaked this winter for the millionth time I've just purchased an Altura Nevis Jacket and a pair of neoprene overshoes.

What do you guys wear to keep your legs dry on the road bike?

Cheers in advance.

I have given up on keeping dry. At least then I get a wash...

Wet is easily rectified with a towel when you get home. This hi-tech yet affordable solution is available from branches of Asda, British Home Stores and M&S, as well as many other high street retailers

If it's just for commuting, over trousers will keep the worst off, may look daft, but being wet in winter usually means getting cold, & cold is not good for your joints.
Whereas, if out for a ride proper, I don't bother & just get wet legs; usually wear quick drying longs in winter, some times with thermals on underneath, but no one can see.

In winter, it depends on how long I am going to be out in the rain and how long/heavy it is raining. I hate getting wet first thing in the morning, (hate putting wet clothes back on to cycle home in and didn't have facilities to get things dry in the past) and also if I am out all day in heavy rain then I will put waterproof trousers on (I have some Gore paclite goretex ones which are excellent though not cheap). But my winter bib tights are water & wind resistant down the fronts which helps considerably. However if it is heavy enough to be running down my legs into my boots, then it is time to reconsider unless I am on my way home...

In summer I just get wet.

It's breathable too!

Incidentally, and without coming across as some kind of crazy stalker, I think I work at the same hospital as you...
Ooooh. Intriguing. Send a cryptic clue about where you work and I'll tell you if you're right!

One day as I was locking up, the hospital chaplain came into the bike shed to lock his bike up. It was vile weather, he was in shorts. When I commented he just said "skin's waterproof"!
Reminds me of riding to Felpham one Friday night. Where I met (I think it was) Tigerbiten OTP on his recumbent trike. A shower began and everyone was breaking out their high-tech lightweight super advanced rain repellent nanotechnology goretex jackets and so forth. He, on the other hand, was stripping down to his swimming trunks for just the reason the chaplain gave.

OK:smile:
I recently had to send a group email because someone had locked their bike to mine and I couldn't get home. This is of course because one of the bike sheds was closed due to the building work.

I have been on a couple of group rides with Nick and Nick, when I may even have met you if you are who I think you are...:hello:...but I'm terrible with names and faces.

You could try rainlegs, funny things but work to some extent.

And mudguards
As Vicks says with mudgaurds these are pretty good as its only your shins that get wet and you dont boil in the bag around your legs , i combine them with aldi commuter overshoes, not warm but they pack down and are waterproof .On the top i have yet to find a breathable jacket that does not turn me into a sweaty mess but thats because i am a tight wad , unless its really hissing it down i just keep the gilet on and then stick a windproof on as i would rather be a bit damp from water than sweat .

Ha, it wasn't me who locked my bike to yours! Though I haven't been on a ride with the Nick's, they go too fast for me!

Oh, so maybe I haven't actually met you then. Still, say hi if you see me - I'm the chap from the website!
