Everyone is normally so stuffed by end of dinner, even if starter is a soup, I wouldn't bother with bread rolls.
We get round that problem by separating our courses out by a few hours. Starter (will be pâté this year) is served at around midday, roast turkey dinner and all the trimmings is at 2:30 ish, with dessert (think we’ve got profiteroles) not eaten until at least 5-6pm. There’s no way I could eat three courses in one sitting.

Last year we had a near disaster. We pre-ordered a festive veg box from the local farm shop for collection in Christmas Eve. We duly collected it and went home to relax as this was the final chore done. Upon unpacking the box though we discovered no parsnips! They were supposed to be in there but none were to be found, and by now the farm shop had closed.

A desperate plea was put out on the local village Facebook page - any spare parsnips?! And don’t you know that we got a response - someone had way too many and were happy to offload some. Christmas was saved!! A real miracle!

This year we have parsnips.

Food of the Gods, roast parsnip.

We haven't got one here - we only have Aldi, Lidl and Morrisons.
It's Tesco Town here, we've got four of them for a population of ~40,000, along with a Sainsbury's & Lidl. Morrisons didn't last long, I think their premises were too small to compete. An Aldi was supposed to be arriving this year, but it never materialised.

Normally remember everything…
Probably shouldn’t have tempted fate by posting that!

As we went to get things out of the freezer last night to defrost, I suddenly realised we didn’t have our roast potatoes. We did have some tiny roasties from Aunt Bessies in the freezer which would have done in a pinch, but not the proper goose fat basted fancy ones that we’d planned to get a tray of from Tescos the day before (the other half’s day off work was changed last minute which messed up our shopping schedule).

Checked the Tesco website and found that they were closing at 6pm on Christmas Eve and it was already 5:55 by the time we realised, so that was no longer an option. But luckily Sainsburys were open one hour later, so we headed there as a detour on our way round to the wife’s parents for pre-Christmas drinks. They had loads of trays left of exactly what we were after - pretty sure there will be lots of them as yellow sticker specials on Boxing Day.

And then we managed to leave behind them in her parent’s fridge and the wife had to pop round this morning to pick them up!
