The study shows- if you want to summarise it very broadly in a single sentence- that energy expenditure doesn't increase as expected with increasing activity; it tends to level off above moderate levels of activity.

ie rather than being a statement of the bleeding obvious the study points to a counterintuitive result

did the OPbother to read the report?

Yes, I read the full report, and so the statement I made is still correct. Your rude reply is unnecessary.
I beg to differ. Your opening post clearly implied that that was all the report said. It was not, and their findings about the body becoming more efficient with increasing levels of exercise (and therefore not needing as much food as you might expect from the level of activity) is counter-intuitive and not 'bleeding obvious'

whilst I confess I've not (yet) read the article, but with so-called "warm blooded" (a somewhat unsatisfactory term) I thought we used far more energy merely maintaining temperature rather than actually doing work. Hence crocodiles and snakes can eat once a fortnight.

That said I ate loads when I was cycling more and didn't get fat

Trouble is that 'commonsense' and 'the bleedin' obvious' are wrong often enough that scientific study is generally useful.

Im honestly tempted to change my job title to reflect that all I do is show people that common sense is a load of shoot.

I doubt "Scientist" would pay as well as "Consultant" though.

We'll just have to disagree on this, then. Just because I cited one claim the article made doesn't mean that I said that was all the article contained. I just felt the need to comment on that part of it.
