Any tips on how to remove a pair of pedals? They've been on the bike 8 years or so and done a few thousands of miles. I tried standing on the spanner, but they weren't shifting (yes I do know the left pedal is reverse threaded). I've sprayed GT85 in, and tapped with a hammer to loosen them. No avail.

I can take to the bike shop but would rather do at home if possible.

Thanks for all advice

Penetrating oil is better than GT85. I took the cranks off and put them face down and dribbled a bit in each day for a week or so, then put them back on the bike and stood on the spanner.

Something long like a bit of scaffold pole or similar to go over the spanner should do the trick .

If they're ones that undo with an Allen key rather than a spanner, then it is possible for an idiot to become confused over which direction in which to turn, because you look at the Allen key from the back. DAHIKT.

And he's turning them both in the correct direction, is what I meant?

Update:
No luck. Took to bike shop - "Oh we can do that for you in a minute or two". No luck - booked in for "heat treatment". Nope those pedals are not shifting a fraction of an inch. Shop are going to order in some new cranks for me and replace the lot. - Given that the cranks are physically worn with a notable grove where the toeclip strap has brushed past them, it is probably time they were changed anyway.

Heat and "Shock'n'unlock" will prevail… dunking the pedal/crank into a container filled with an ultralight penetrating oil will help - something like Iso Propyl Alcohol will help a lot. Leave it there for a week, occasionally heating up the crank then dunking it into the liquid to help draw in the oil.

I have the same problem and now after trying so many times and actually breaking a couple of spanner it's started to round off. Is that time to give up and replace the entire crank?
