Hey up chaps, due to me being a fat wap and very unfit I am struggling somewhat.
I am riding indoors at work at the moment to gain a little condition and stability.

I am doing 1 mile stints 2 or 3 times a day at an average if 7 mph. Not exactly tour figures are they lol

I will get there as my legs improve, it's mi quads that give up, but no doubt I'll feel a differance in a week or so.

KEEP GOING! Improving slowly is better than not improving.

You are making an effort, that is ace. Do you have a bike ready for the great outdoors?

I will +1 the take it easy! I pushed myself too quickly and injured my knee, that still plays up now after a year! I should really go the doctors over that...

It will only get easier. Why are you only riding indoors? Much better to get out and about in the fresh air, you will generally feel better. If you are overweight you also need to adopt a healthy balanced diet which should give you more energy.

Don't stress over it. We all started out the same. My first ride was about 7 miles and I had to stop half way up a little hill and be physically sick I was so unconditioned for cycling. A few weeks later, same hill was much easier and I go up it in the big chainring now and I am no spring chicken. Mind you, I am a bit worried about restarting after being off since end of June with an injury but hopefully my body will maybe remember what it is supposed to do!

+1 on the getting outside

My first ride on a bike a year or so ago was downhill to the local park, where I needed a sit down for a bit before riding home. I guarantee my average speed was a lot lower than 7mph :laugh:

More you cycle the easier it gets. If it's not getting easier you're probably going faster... :bicycle:

Cheers guys :-)

I am riding indoors cos I'm at work 7 days at the moment due to financial embarrassment. It's an old cotton mill so plenty of room.

I do have a bike ready for outdoors, in fact I am riding a fine machine a Specialized Tricross Sport. I bought/traded it with a chap that shoots at the range I work at. It's like new, I'm also blessed with another shooter being a cycle mechanic and a Psychiatric Nurse. So he is a real help ;-)

Keep at it!!
It will get easier....I started cycling last October after many years away.
Combined with a medical diet (which I started previous to cycling), plus the activity, I have lost 4 stone.
My first ride was to the bottom of my street and back...the small hill almost killed me!
Now, I regularly cycle 15-20 miles and average 50-60 miles in a week.

You can do it!
