Use some paraffin and some old rags to get between the sprockets. With the wheel off you can get everything reasonably clean. I still tend to give my bikes a heavy overhaul once a year when I'm riding regularly, which involves a complete strip down of the transmission. But unless it's really filthy :ohmy: you shouldn't need to do that much.

Blimey he makes hard work of that. Take the axle and cones out to move a freewheel from one wheel to another? Put a worn freewheel on a brand new wheel? Carry all this out kneeling on the floor of your back yard? The guy certainly knows very little about wrenching!
