Been for a short ride today. Did 22.7 miles according to my Cateye Velo but Strava only makes it 21? Does anyone else experience this type of discrepancy? My Cateye was zeroed before I set off and I started Strava simultaneously?

What are you using to record to strava, your phone?

GPS on phones is often a bit sketchy, also the cateye will accommodate the line you take around bends etc because it is measuring distance from wheel rotation, the gps won't do this, at least not with such fine resolution. Combine this with potential user error with the cateye (in terms of you measuring and entering the wheel circumference) and you can quickly see how they might not match up exactly. I wouldn't worry much about it.

That's a good answer......thank you for that. Like you say I am not particularly worried about it, still enjoy the rides and it does give me a fair enough representation of how far. Cheers

Conspiracy Theorists say, '' That every ride you 'Log' on Strava will be used by the government for future use to tax cyclists 20p per mile''.

Not really, just thought it might be a fun rumour to start, see how long before the tabloids run it!

I do the same ride on a regular basis. Strava shows a variation of more than 100 feet in elevation. Yesterday I rode along the prom at Morecambe and Strava told me I'd climbed 305 feet. My whole ride was at sea level! That's just 200 feet lower than Blackpool Tower. It was a nice ride though but Strava doesn't log that.

I stopped using Strava because it wasn't very accurate, now I use Locus which is a lot more accurate than Strava, and if you go in to settings you can adjust the accuracy. The only drawback is it's very hungry and uses up a lot of battery power.

I use cyclometer (iPhone) and a cateye. I did 75 miles on Friday and my cateyeread 75.12 and cyclometer read 74.99. I was pretty impressed. Elevation change is a different matter. Phone GPS totally overestimates.

Its also possible that your cateye is overestimating slightly if perhaps you havent measured a full roll of the tyre with your weight on it, just a thought

I seem to recall hearing the Galaxy S2's GPS accuracy isnt that great as far as smartphones go, but I may be mistaken. GPS in general is fairly accurate at finding your location but for tracking so many things can mess it up, although Strava seems pretty good as far as tracker apps go.
