Yes but by each individual making private segments they then can't see, nor can other not so great riders see how they are performing against others.
Individuals have always been able to make segments private. That isn't changing.
Strava is making the ones with bad GPS data (not sure how they determine that) private.
They have always been that really. As soon as you have KOMs and professional riders are including their races, those immediately take all the top of the leaderboard on any significant segment.Which goes back to my original thought that they are heading towards an "elitist" platform with a bias on "better riders"
The only problem with that is that if a lot of us plebs are taking nothing from the platform then we will stop paying which will eventually push up the price for those who are left.
I really don't see the changes as being even noticeable to the vast majority of us plebs. A few of our segments which had duplicates may appear to change name and suddenly have twice as many riders on the list. And a few "bad" segments may disappear.
