Can anyone explain why all the pseudo-racers are obsessed with this Strava nonsense. How about actually trying a race and see how you shape up - there may be a pleasant surprise - or not!
Don't go being sensible now.

Your not going hard enough . After a 10 I'm normally dribbling on my Garmin not pressing the buttons
Don't worry I'm not pressing anything, on the I phone (don't have a garmin, ride blind so to speak) it picks up the segments for the whole ride and I just have a look when I drag myself shaking back to the car park!

its not too easy finding a club or riding buddies to race with. strava lets me log my mileage, pens are old fashioned lol, and for three mins when i return from a ride i get to blast through where ive been and what ive done.

Suggest you look through the BC website. NE has a proud history of racing hard men, and a good club scene. You should be able to find a club that's just right, with like minded people.
