Thought I'd do a bit of a hilly ride today,( oughtibridge, Mortimer road, pea royd lane )and record my activity on strava. Because I knew I was recording it I made a bit more of an effort only to find, when I got home, that it had only recorded the first few yards.

Hold on. That's not Strava's fault rather then your phone or computer surely.

Did you have data on , Strava might of started syncing the phone to the site, mines crashes a lot when syncing so I keep data off .

Hate it when the gps is a little off and records your ride but is about 20 meters off and it doesn't register any segments... only happens when you have put extra effort in!

Yeah now you mention it my phone could have lost signal. Strava recorded the first and last few yards so it looked like I'd just gone up the road and back

It's probably either your phone or the app. I use the iPhone app 99% of the time, only using the Garmin for really long rides and I've never had a ride fail to track properly.

My Garmin has a sneaky trick of working every time I use it apart from when I actually want to look at the data to see if a new position has worked out . Yesterdays two hour ride has just disappeared ! Its on the Garmin as the time and date I set off but theres nothing there about the ride

Mine did a strange thing yesterday (app on I phone 5)

Very short ride on MTB to take a photo, stopped within a mile to take said photo and it gave me an average speed of 40+ mph and having already covered 2.5 miles which I clearly hadn't. Now looking at the speed graph, it flatlined until 2 miles then starts? So for the first 2 miles (which I didn't do) it's given me a very high speed.
Now my feed is all over the place with notifications of comments being linked with the wrong rides?
Will reset the phone and see if that sorts it.

Approaching perfection from a distance.
Rode to Yarmouth a couple of months ago. 38+ miles at an average of 20.3mph on the Garmin, my best effort ever.

Downloaded it to Strava expecting some complimentary comments and a little extra Kudos.

Strava recorded the ride at an average of 19.4!

Since I've started time trialing it's been interesting seeing how accurate strava is compared to the stop watch, and the results can only be described as variable. Sometimes over 8-10 miles it has been within 1 second accurate and sometimes as much as 30 seconds out!
Edit
Although to be fair it probably could be down to where the exact start/stop of the segment has been plotted and it being different to where we actually start/stop the TT.

Your not going hard enough . After a 10 I'm normally dribbling on my Garmin not pressing the buttons
