One night in the 1970s my dad was bringing my mum home to Birmingham from a night out in Coventry when she swore she saw blue elephants in a field by the A45. Caused a bit of a tiff as my dad obviously put it down to one too many Babychams, but she wasn't having it. A few days later the local rag ran a story about a famous circus troop over-wintering their animals at a farm near the A45. The elephants were painted with a blue substance to protect against the cold weather. Blue elephants near Birmingham Airport. For real.

What is it with Coventry and elephants...?!

One night in the 1970s my dad was bringing me home from a night out in Coventry when I swore that I saw a huge grey elephant by the A4053. Caused a bit of a tiff as my dad obviously put it down to one too many double vodkas, but I wasn't having it!
