Does anyonme else find that they get "cafe legs" when they stop. I usually stop around halfway round a 50 or 60 mile ride for a cup of tea and a bite to eat, but after a 20 min stop my legs are stiff and it takes afew miles to get going again.

Yes, I find this which is why if I'm on my own I very rarely stop nowadays. The only time I don't get "cafe legs" is when I'm out with the CTC. I think that's because they don't go very fast and have several tea stops within a short radius. The only time I struggled was after a pub stop last Sunday when we had a roast dinner and a pint. Could have down with an afternoon nap after that!

I only ride for the fun of it (or to get somewhere) and tend to regard cake stops as obligatory. After all, if you are not enjoying your self why do it?

Despite the cafe legs, I nearly always stop when I'm out. Usually making the cafe the destination/purpose of my ride. This could be the reason why I have XXL jersey and shorts;)

The small group I ride with did our 1st 30 miler of the year this week and, we stopped 3 times including the turnaround 1/2 way but then only once as we had warmed up properly in the 2nd half coming home.

I know it sounds like a long way but I don't think I had properly warmed up until about 10 miles in. Looking back to 6 months ago I would not have thought it possible to be saying that as 10 miles was as much as I could have managed before having to stop for a lie down

I made the same mistake a couple of weeks ago. On my first longer solo ride to Arncliffe in the Dales this year, I took a 1 flask of coffee, 1 bottle of water and 3 cereal bars, that's it. I ran out of everything including energy, but the worst part was the last couple of miles crawling up Cottingley Rd after doing 70 miles thinking I might as well keep riding and refresh on food/water when I get home. I learnt a very big lesson on that day. ;)

All I can remember is that food cannot be taken on until 50 km is covered, and cannot be taken on in the final 50 km ;) Confirmation please.

2.3.027 Feeding is prohibited on climbs, descents and during the first 50 and last 20 km.

Here it is. On a 100 km, only stop after 50 km ridden and before 20 km to the finish.

I was mistaken about the 50km before the finish. I used to conduct Audax to this rule, and make it work.
That strategy calls for a huge breakfast.
