An alternative is to use 2.5mm shrink wrap electrical cable cover (Maplins etc.). It's not as good as cable crimp caps but it doesn't mess up the cable end so that you can remove it without fraying or cutting the end. Still leaves the risk of spearing yourself or somebody else with the cable end though


That is what I use now, light too. Have used pop-rivet body as well as a shrt length of plastic tube taken from a cotton ear bud.

Never have been speared by the loose ends ..... yet.

This is the answer as this method does not flatten the end of the cable causing the strands to splay once the shrink wrap has been removed. That's the problem with using crimps and can result in problems when inserting the cable into the outer.

Another is to use wire terminal block (the sort to connect wires via two small screws) .. removed the plastic block covering and feed the single connector over the cable and loop the end back into the connector and tighten the two screws.

Thanks - I've got loads of 'chocolate bar' connectors from my car-DIY days.
