I know someone who had one of these with a fan attached, they had it sitting on top of a wood burning stove. It was said to be helping circulate the heat from the stove around the room.
(All in past tense because they no longer have a wood burning stove, or a Stirling engine)

Some friends of ours have 2 wood burning stove mounted ones at their cottage and they work really well.
For hand mounted ones I am struggling to see the relevant applications.

It looks identical to the one I got off ebay for about £30.
