I get rid of most of them on New Years Day. I know the tradition is to keep them until the 6th, but once you are back to work and Christmas is 350-something days away there doesn't seem much point.
The 12th night is the eve of the 5th January, Dec 25th being the 1st night. I should know, it's my burfday. (subtle hints abound !!) so our decorations always used to disappear on the 11th night (eve), the 4th. :8:
Oh yes I suppose historically people regarded the end of the day as when the sun went down, rather than focusing on the start of the day as midnight. I was just counting forwards 12 days after 25th December.
Ours were down on Boxing Day afternoon. Half an hour later the first strip of wall paper was going up. It would have been earlier but I had to make three bird boxes in the morning :8:
