My decorating training began summer of 1961.I was eleven years old.My dad said i don't want you getting in to trouble during the school holiday.So come with me,i will pay you and give you a trade.Well now i am 75.Circumstances have forced upon us decorating the living room and shortly the staircase.All to do with the father in law coming to live with us.Well after four days of hard work i am now sat in a clean and tidy well prepped room.All coated up white.Two coats on woodwork.Due to heavy filling on the ceiling three coats of emulsion two on the walls but three where a damp area was found,plus two coats of damp proof paint on the offending patch,five coats that got.So now Mrs P is on her way home from Lancashire where her dad has been admitted to hospital,tomorrow we shall buy the final paint colours, two, one woodwork satin wood,and ceiling and three walls emulsion and a contrast chimney breast and two alcoves.My word 11-75 and can still do a good shift.

Well let's have an update shall we.Because i have hit an iceberg like the Titanic.i am not a happy bunny.So we went to find a carpet and there was a sale on.beautiful carpet and the top best underlay, we were really happy,bloke was free so he came to measure up and see any problems.oh dear they don't fit carpet over laminate flooring.It seems the carpet moves or ruckles up.So this afternoon i took up a perfectly good cheapish flooring,now here is my problem,the skirting boards were put on last after the flooring,so now there is a gap ,i want to fill that gap with either silicone or rope like the old ship masters did.Mrs p is against it,she thinks the gripper rod close up the thick underlay and finally the carpet will cover,well i hope so,but also the floor panels,because we had the floorboards taken up years ago due to a botched job done before.i think there is some damp.so tomorrow i am going to scrub the floor and paint the dark areas with damp proof paint about three times.Then i can get back to finishing off the room.Plus we decided to vinyl the hallway floor due to slippy issues with the Father in Law,so up came the same laminate flooring.The surface does not look good,but we shall seek the companies advice on what to do with that,oh the trials and tribulations of home diy.just when things were looking good.
Carpet man has been again this afternoon,just to check on the condition of the floor.He agreed with me,the surface is rubbish.To have vinyl would have meant improving the floor at great expense.So we have gone for the best and thickest underlay it's only for the hallway and we had carpet before it will look great when finished.So another seven solid days of diy on the horizon.
We asked our Son to order me some fitches to do the fine cutting in.A greenish colour to a creamy colour.So Amazon prime only ordered last night delivered today,great service sadly Son put his address,ha ha
