Stiff link out of nowhere

Whilst out today almost at my half way point I could feel the rear mech skipping. My first though was chain slip, my second cassette wear. I managed to find a place to pull over and turn the bike upside down. After turning the pedals a few times I spotted the cause. One of the links was stiff. I tried the wiggling methods to loosen it but ended up using the chain splitter to push the pin slightly out and in to the chain. The rest of the ride it was fine. I have now give the chain a good coating of Dry Lube.

Has anyone else had a stiff link appear seemingly from nowhere?

If it is a new chain I'd say it was not properly joined. If it is not new then it could be rust. A friend had problem with his chain due to his agressive shifting especially under load.. to solve it just try to apply less force to the pedal when changing gears.

The bike is around two weeks old. It was running perfectly up to that point. I did have a shifting issue earlier in the ride though so that might have had something to do with it. I tried the less force approach but the link was about half way to seized so it didn't work
