I agree with what Compo said about the threadless BB^^^^^

To be sure the crankset won't rub, the best bet is to check the length of the Carrera BB spindle and get the same size seeing as you know they were a matched set. The bottom bracket may have the size written on it (most likely in the format 68x???) or measure it using a vernier caliper if you have one.

Measure the width of the BB housing on the frame as well to make sure you get the right BB. There are a couple of different widths. 68mm and 73mm are most common but it'll probably be 68mm.

Thanks guys.

The BB and frame size are both 68mm. The length of the Carrera spindle is, if I'm measuring it right (just straight from the end of one spindle to the end of the other) is about 112mm, but there don't appear to be any BBs of that length for sale, they are mostly 68x127 or 68x119.

Will a longer one be a problem?

Have just found a website that sells the same BB in 68 x 113 so I'll order one of those.

Fitting a BB with a longer spindle will change your chain line. I gather from your other thread that this is a fixed gear project, so not having the right chain line could cause issues. On the plus side, there shouldn't be any problems with clearance.

I don't run a single speed bike so I'm afraid I don't know how much leeway you have with your chain line - asking in the fixed and singlespeed section will get a better answer I suspect.

Edit: posted too slow.

Thanks again Phil. Will post that question in the FG/SS section
